Urban Sketchers attended the First Nations Canoe Gathering at Vanier Park recently. This colourful meeting was part of the Truth and Reconciliation event to deal with and move past the experience of first nations people in residential schools. The water was full of canoes and first nations people chanting. I had to sketch quickly as boats were being launched, so the figures are just outlines. As I was sketching, I heard people calling out, “Nanwayut!” (We are one.) The boats went on to Science World, where there was a welcome ceremony.
